Tourists Visiting Sri Lanka by Country / Region
In 2007, 9,668 Chinese people came to visit Sri Lanka, which accounted for 2% of Sri Lanka international tourists, and in 2008, we have 16,274 Chinese tourists, accounted for 3% of Sri Lanka international tourists. Our tourists are most from the other Asia countries and Western Europe. At present, we have 13 Five-Star hotels with 2,845 rooms, accounted for 20% of total rooms. In Sri Lanka, 72% hotels with 8,816 rooms are unclassified.

Let me take you now to some of the pristine tourism resources in Sri Lanka which we are trying our best to preserve for the generations to come…..Sri Lanka has 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and they are Anuradhapura (500 BC – 9th century A.D.) -First capital of ancient Sri Lanka; Polonnaruwa (10th-12th century A.D.); Sigiriya Lion Rock (5th century A.D.); Dambulla- Painted Cave Temples; Kandy – 15th-19th A.D. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Sri Lanka has Unspoiled Tropical Beaches, Tea Country-Cooler Hill Climates, Majestic Mountains, Resplendent Sea, Lagoons, Rice Paddy Fields, Coconut Groves, Waterfalls, Jungle, Hills, and Forest. In Sri Lanka, there are Eco-Lodges, Rain Forest, Jungle, Wilapattu National Game Park, Yala National Game Park, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, and Whale-watching for you to visit. Sri Lanka has a diverse range of hotels; they are Eco - lodges heritage hotels, boutique hotels, and hotels for larger groups. Sri Lanka is also a shopping paradise; tourists can buy handicrafts, gemstones, spices, batiks, export quality garments, household goods, fabrics, electronic goods very convenient.
