Alaska Seafood Seminar played an indispensable role in building a connection between Alaskan suppliers and Chinese traders. Guests enjoyed ten selections of Alaskan seafood provided by ASMI, including King Crab, Snow Crab, Salmon, Pollock, Cod fillet, Black Cod, Stingray, Pollock roes, Herring roes, and Sea Slug. By visiting, Governor Walker deepened his vision in creating a stable, reciprocal and amicable long-term partnership with China. Furthermore, the visit raised awareness of natural and delicious Alaskan seafood, which will lead to a significant boost in Chinese sales.
Alaska is the largest U.S. state, located in the northwest extremity of North America which is well-known for the Northern Lights and scenic glaciers. Alaska’s unique location helps to create a pollution-free environment, making Alaskan waters some of the cleanest in the world. Thanks to strict legislation regarding fishing management and high levels of marine protection, the Alaskan seafood industry remains committed to providing healthy and sustainable seafood products. In effect, Alaska has become one of the largest suppliers of diversified seafood in the world. Delicious Alaskan seafood products include five kinds of salmon (King, Coho, Sockeye, Chum, and Pink), three types of crab (King, Snow, and Dungeness), as well as Black Cod, Cod fillet, Pollock, and Flatfish.
ASMI, a public-private partnership between the State of Alaska and the Alaskan seafood industry, was established to set standards for food security and quality certification in the seafood industry and assist in marketing efforts. ASMI works to promote rich and healthy diets by providing marine products that are high in protein and Omega-3, while remaining low in fat. ASMI has initiated consumer campaigns and promotional activities in Mainland China and Hong Kong since 1997. In recent years, Chinese consumers have turned their attention towards pursuing a healthy lifestyle by working out and maintaining a natural dietary routine. This shift has triggered increased demand for Alaskan seafood. Currently, Alaskan seafood products are readily available through many well-known channels, including luxury hotels such as Shangri-La, Grand Hyatt, and many high-end restaurants. These products can easily be found in e-commerce giants such as JD, Tmall, and SFBest, and locally in high-end supermarkets such as City Super, Ole’ and Hema. These many options make it possible for Chinese consumers to experience the natural goodness of Alaskan seafood from thousands of miles away.
